You can find a beach for every taste and preference, from secluded and quiet to lively and fun. Tabyana Beach and French Key are also great options for a lovely, relaxing day. The cruise ports are well-secured and patrolled by security guards and police officers. The cruise lines also work closely with the local authorities and tour operators to ensure the safety and comfort of their passengers. However, this does not mean that you should let your guard down or ignore the common-sense precautions. Little French Key is a privately-owned island, located in French Harbor (on Roatan's southern shore).
Catamaran excursions
All reef systems throughout Bay Islands are protected by the government and helped by charitable donations. Sandy Bay is a residential area on Roatan’s northwestern shore featuring hotel resorts, restaurants and a beautiful beach that is part of the Roatan Marine Park preserve. The beach offers amazing snorkeling just a 200-meter swim from shore. Camp Bay Beach is located a 50-minute drive from Mahogany Bay cruise port and a 1-hour drive from Coxen Hole cruise terminal.
Cruises to Roatan
There didn’t seem to be much beyond here within walking distance, so we turned back and walked past the port area which is where the main part of town is located. Turning right will lead you into the small town and local shopping area. Turning left will lead you to our first port of call which was Captain Jack’s Seafood Island Bar. We had pre-booked a tour, so we did have to say a nice polite “no thank you” a few times. These people have to work hard to scrape a living together on this island, so I totally respect what they are doing. We were booked on an independent tour with Victor Bodden Tours (via Viator) and once we checked in with them they directed us to a cooler, covered pavilion to wait for our driver.
Shopping and Dining
If you love photography, you’ll marvel at the underwater photos by Roatán local Shawn Jackson in his gallery here. If you are hungry, there are several restaurants in the Cruise Center. Stop by Fat Tuesday’s atop Monkey Hill for amazing views, some Caribbean Jerk chicken, and a cold and refreshing “Banana Banshee” Daquiri. This beach gets busier and louder as the day goes on, so grab your chair early or choose a different beach if you are looking for quiet. The Cruise Center has a mix of duty-free shops and retailers, including Diamonds International, Del Sol, and Piranha Joes. The best time to visit Roatan is during the dry season, which typically runs from October to April.
The Mahogany Bay Cruise Center has two berths where two cruise ships can dock at once. The area has plenty of facilities to cater to your needs during your time ashore. Here, you will find a variety of popular activities, including zipline tours and the SNUBA underwater diving experience. Many shore excursions offer snorkeling as part of their package, and you may even find options that combine this activity with a beach break or island tour. Whether you’re a seasoned diver or trying snorkeling for the first time, you’re in for a treat as you immerse yourself in the colorful underwater world of Roatan. Roatan is known for its vibrant coral reefs and diverse marine life, making it an ideal destination for snorkeling and scuba diving.

Due to the size of the Roatán Rum Company and Chocolate Factory, pairing them together and visiting both in a single visit is ideal. It is possible with a driver since you are not dealing with a large group and can easily fit more attractions into a single visit. Depending on which one you choose to visit, you can hang out and interact with monkeys, sloths, and other birds for around $12 - $35 per person. There are several cafes which offer free WiFi for customers around the docks.
Roatan Marine Park
Little French Key is a private island paradise 9 miles (14 km) east of Roatán Cruise Pier in Coxen Bay. Depending on the day pass package, you can access beach chairs, palapas, snorkel gear, kayaks, paddleboards, and a tour of the animal rescue center. Do you want to escape the commotion that usually occurs in port on a cruise day? If so, why not spend the day at a luxurious private island resort on one of the stunning keys off the south coast of Roatán?

Many bars offer live music, allowing you to embrace the beauty of Roatan while listening to talented musicians. You can join a guided kayak tour or rent a kayak and paddle at your own pace. The cruise center just off the dock has a number of shops, including an arts and crafts market showcasing the wares of over a dozen Honduran artists. There’s even a pharmacy if you need first-aid supplies or medication. There’s so much to do in the port area that you could spend your entire day ashore just enjoying what it has to offer. However, if you plan to go off exploring on your own or taking an excursion, there’s also a transportation spot with taxis and shuttles available.

You don’t have to break the bank, and if you bring your own snorkel gear you can enjoy some really great reefs on the cheap. No, Mahogany Bay is not a private island, but simply the cruise port for Carnival Corp. owned ships. It is located in the Caribbean Sea and is part of Roatan, an island in Honduras.
However, cruise prices are at a premium, and resorts can be crowded. Flyboarding is one of the most fun water activities you can do in Roatán. Your flyboard is attached to a 45-foot hose that uses water pressure to propel you up to 25 feet (7.6 m) in the air.
This private island has a charming, quaint atmosphere and offers a wide range of activities. You can explore the island, swim with dolphins, or relax on the picturesque beach. It’s located only a short distance from the French Harbour, making it easily accessible from the cruise port.
If you have mobility issues, we recommend either taking the chairlift or the paved path as the nature trail includes some slight elevation changes and has loose gravel. But if you want a nice trip through some flora on your way to the beach — and some great spots to take photos of your ship — consider choosing the nature trail. Those who want to skip the chairlift (and have some shade on their way over to the beach) can walk over from the shopping area in about 10 minutes. There’s a regular paved path, but you can also take the scenic route — a nature trail. As the port is located in Honduras, the most common itinerary that includes Mahogany Bay are voyages to the western Caribbean.
Roatan is safe and can provide anyone with memories that will last a lifetime. To make the most of your visit, consider booking an adventure directly on Roatan Online, or with Roatan Tours. Yes, there is a free beach at Mahogany Bay cruise port, which is Mahogany Beach, a private beach that is exclusive for cruise passengers who dock at Mahogany Bay. You can access the beach by walking for about 5 minutes, or by taking the Magical Flying Beach Chair. The ride takes about 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the traffic and the destination, and costs about $10 to $20 per person, round trip. The island has over 40 miles of coastline, with white sand, turquoise water, and palm trees.
Whether you’re looking for duty-free items, local boutiques, gift shops, or jewelry stores, you’ll find something to suit your needs. No matter what type of traveler you are, Mahogany Bay Cruise Port has something for everyone. With its stunning scenery, exciting attractions, and variety of activities, it is the perfect destination for a cruise vacation.
Other beach activities include paddleboarding, kayaking, jet skiing, and glass-bottom boat tours. So, the best way to spend your day in port is to book a shore excursion online or through your cruise operator. Mahogany Bay cruise terminal is a state-of-the-art cruise port with a range of facilities and attractions. At both ports, taxis and tour operators are located near the exit of the cruise terminal. The island is part of the Western Caribbean Cruise itineraries and is one of the most popular destination ports for Caribbean cruises. From shopping, to eating out at local restaurants, to exploring nearby attractions such as Gumbalimba Park or Blue Harbor Tropical Arboretum – there’s something for everyone to enjoy!
